Moving in a new direction: from nursing to midwifery

Capital, Coast and Hutt Valley encourage Registered Nurses to consider midwifery as a great career choice.

Several tertiary education providers are currently developing a course specifically for registered nurses to attain their midwifery registration.

At the present time Otago Polytechnic and ARA Polytechnic have been approved to provide a shortened courses which would be run for people with an existing health profession degree if they want to become midwives.

Registered Nurses are required to complete two specific topics and other health professionals three. Then you can join midwifery students at the start of their second year to progress with this exciting career change.
