Te Whatu Ora Capital, Coast and Hutt Valley is responsible for providing or funding health services to around 300,000 people throughout the region.

Our transparency statement explains how we collect, use and share information about the people we provide health services to. This statement applies to information gathered by us, our contractors, or any other third parties engaged by us.

Our role

We receive information on matters related to individual and public health gathered by us and other agencies. We use this information to assess and provide health care services and coordinates with other agencies in preparedness and response to health concerns and events nationally.

How we collect information

All information we gather about members of the public or other entities (directly or indirectly) must be in accordance with the Information Gathering Model Standards issued by the State Services Commission.

We collect information from individuals and agencies in accordance with the Health information Privacy Code 2020 and our Privacy Policy and Guidelines for the Collection of Personal Information.

How we look after information

We are required to look after the information we hold about our patients. The security of the information we collect is managed in accordance with the Privacy Act 2020, the Official Information Act 1982 and the Public Records Act 2005 and our Privacy Policy, our Official Information Act Requests Policy and our Security Access Agreement.

How we use and share information

The information we collect and hold is used only for the purpose for which it is collected or as otherwise lawfully permitted.

We do not have any law enforcement or regulatory compliance responsibilities, and do not gather any information for these purposes. Should we identify a need to gather information for these purposes, we will ensure compliance with the Information Gathering Model Standards and update this transparency statement.

Security

The security of our premises is a priority for Te Whatu Ora. We collect personal information (video footage) via our CCTV cameras only for the purpose of keeping people and assets safe. This footage is collected, stored, used and disclosed in accordance with the Privacy Act 2020 and our Privacy Policy. Where we have concerns regarding potential threats to the safety of people or property, our security staff or the NZ Police may be contacted and footage may be released to support the purpose of collection.
