After 18 months as Medical Registrar at Wellington Hospital, Scott joined the Cardiology Department as Registrar in 1996
In 1998 he proceeded to Edinburgh where he took up a position as Specialist Registrar, Department of Cardiology at the Royal Infirmary.
From July 2000 to June 2001, Scott was Interventional Cardiology Fellow at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.  There he honed his skills in what would become his special interest.
Scott went back to Edinburgh in 2001, initially as locum Specialist Registrar in Cardiology at the Royal Infirmary for three months, and subsequently took up the position of Lecturer in Cardiology, University of Edinburgh / Royal Infirmary.

Since mid 2003, Scott has been back in Wellington, as Interventional Cardiologist, Wellington Hospital, and Director of Research, Cardiology Department.
Scott has provided an important service also implanting cardiac pacemakers and implantable defibrillators.

He is Adjunct Professor, School of Biological Science, Victoria University.
