Matthew graduated from Otago University in 2000 and completed General Physician and Cardiology training in the Wellington region.
Leaving Wellington in 2011 with a grounding in cardiac pacing he undertook three years of cardiac electrophysiology training in the Waikato, and in Liverpool in the UK.

He returned to Wellington in 2014 as a Cardiologist Electrophysiologist specializing in the management of cardiac rhythm disorders including ablation procedures, and implantation of cardiac devices such as pacemakers and defibrillators.

Matthew maintains his passion for teaching through his Senior Lecturer post with the Wellington School of Medicine, and is a familiar face at local and international educational meetings.
