Educated at Wanganui Collegiate and at Wellesley College, The Terrace, Wellington HS, Masterton Hospital 1940 WW2 service with the NZMC in Egypt, Syria, North Africa and Italy. Initially worked as an anaesthetist in No1 NZCCS, under Stanley Wilson. He later turned to radiology at 2NZGH, where his mentor was Eugene ('Nudge') Lynch. Radiology Registrar, Wellington Hospital 1945 Studied for the diploma in Diagnostic Radiology in Edinburgh 1946 - 1947.
