Born Clonmel, County Tipperary 28 Feb1837         Died Wellington 19 Apr 1903

Studied in Dublin, Paris and London.Enlisted in the Army in 1859 as staff assistant and surgeon. In June 1860, he was sent to NZ, 3 months after the start of the Waitara war. He left the Imperial Army, joining the Colonial Forces, and became their Surgeon-General.

He left the military in 1865 and set up practice as a medical practitioner in Wellington.

He was appointed a Member of the Legislative Council in 1870.
