In the new hospital that opened in 1988, the children's wards were designated Wards 18 (Surgical) and 19 (Medical). At around the time of the opening of the New Regional Hospital in 2008, these were redesignated Wards 2 (Surgical) and Ward 1 (Medical).
The nurse in charge of each ward was from 1992 designated Charge Nurse Manager - a change from 'Ward Sister'.

Judy McLean, having been appointed in 1980, continued in that role until 2007.
