Community organisations supporting people with cancer

Te Aho o te kahu, the cancer control agency, have useful information about living well with cancer and how you and your whānau can access support.

They also have a list of community organisations supporting patients with various types of cancer.

Community Cancer Nurses

Community Cancer Nurses are Registered Nurses based in the community who are experienced in cancer treatment and supportive care. They work together with the local District Nurses, health care teams at the Wellington Blood and Cancer Centre as well as Hutt Valley and Wairarapa DHBs and GPs.

Community Cancer Nurses can provide:

  • Expert advice, support and monitoring during cancer treatment
  • Clinical assessment and referral to other services as required
  • Education and liaison
  • Availability for family meetings
  • Advocacy within the health system

You can ask your GP, local cancer care team or other health professionals to refer you.
