Following two national workshops bringing together the main disciplines who work together to deliver radiation services, the Radiation Oncology team from the Wellington Blood and Cancer Centre will be hosting a 3rd national workshop - the theme this time will be:
HDR brachytherapy – The New Zealand practice
The primary purpose of this one day workshop will be to conduct a stocktake of HDR practice within New Zealand. Results of a limited survey conducted beforehand will be shared. This survey will also partly determine the agenda as we learn what is common practice and where we differ; what is commonly available and what is not widely available.
Different centres around the country will be invited to share local experiences and there will be opportunities to ask questions of our colleagues, hopefully benefitting delivery of care. The workshop will facilitate the development of support networks. This meeting will also specifically include radiation oncology nurses involved in supporting the delivery of brachytherapy. The target participants are all those involved in delivery of HDR brachytherapy – Radiation Oncologists, Radiation Therapists, Radiation Oncology Medical Physicists and Radiation Oncology nurses. Whilst this is not a basic HDR teaching course non practitioners of HDR are welcome and trainees may find it very illuminating. Time constraints do not permit broadening the topic to other forms of brachytherapy.
