Introduction

Opened in 1997, the Simulation and Skills Centre is a purpose-designed facility suitable for the simulation needs of a wide range of healthcare professionals, with the ability to provide point of care training.

Our goal is to improve patient safety through simulation-based education and research.

The centre is located on Level 9 of the Clinical Services Block (purple lifts) at Wellington Regional Hospital - see Contact us below for more detail on how to find us.

The centre facilities include:

  • Specialist simulation rooms - recovery, ED and theatre
  • Presentation / debriefing rooms
  • Air ambulance simulator
  • Skill-based training rooms

The centre has a range of high-fidelity simulators, part-task trainers and manikins. Some of our equipment is available can be hired and used in your facility - contact us for further information.

Using the Simulation and Skills Centre facilities

The Simulation and Skills Centre facilities can be booked for simulation-based training events and associated presentations.

A fee is charged to use the centre for external events. See Contact us below for booking queries.

Air ambulance simulator

The Simulation and Skills Centre includes Hospi's Air Ambulance Simulator, which can be hired for training.

Simulation offers a unique opportunity to enhance clinical training and Crew Resource Management training of all staff in the aviation environment. Medical and nursing staff are able to work through possible scenarios in the air and establish best practice, best positioning and access to equipment and their patient.

The simulator allows medical staff to experience working in a small area without the luxury of multiple staff to assist. A range of scenarios can be developed and specifically tailored to your training needs.
