Christmas is fast approaching and there will be plenty of Christmas cheer happening at our hospitals. A special thanks to Wellington Hospitals Foundation (our official charity) for the work that they do to bring Christmas to life.
On 29 November, Christmas will arrive at Wellington Regional Hospital, with over 60 Christmas trees, a nativity scene, Santa’s grotto, and ward decorations all going up. A team of volunteers, organised by Wellington Hospitals Foundation, spend a day transforming the hospital for the festive season.
And not forgetting Kenepuru Hospital and Kapiti Health Centre, where there’ll also be plenty of Christmas decorations going up!
On Christmas day itself, every baby born at Wellington Regional Hospital, Kenepuru Community Hospital and Kapiti Health Centre will receive a special Christmas gift pack from Wellington Hospitals Foundation. All mothers and babies in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit also receive a gift pack. Each pack contains a handmade Christmas quilt in a Christmas stocking, with a Christmas Hospi and some gorgeous knitting too!
Even Father Christmas is coming to Wellington Hospital. He’ll be in the atrium every weekday between 12 and 1pm from 10 to 21 December. You can get a photo with Santa and Hospi (the Wellington Children’s Hospital’s mascot) for a donation, which supports Wellington Children’s Hospital. Santa and Hospi will also be making special visits to the Wellington Children’s Hospital in the lead-up to Christmas.
For patients at Wellington Children’s Hospital over the Christmas period, Wellington Hospitals Foundation organises a number of special visitors, a Christmas Party, Christmas Hospi toys for all the children, and presents which are kindly donated by the community. This year there will be a special visit from the Police, who will arrive in a convoy of police cars to visit our patients.
Hospi, will be out and about in the community this Christmas season to say hi to kids who have been in hospital before. You can find him at 'A Very Welly Xmas' (read more about Hospi's Clinic at this event here -https://whf.org.nz/2018/08/31/welly-christmas-festival/), as well as the Petone, Johnsonville, Kilbirnie, Tawa, Upper Hutt and Stokes Valley Christmas parades. He hopes to see you there!
Wishing you a very Merry Christmas from everyone at Wellington Hospital, Kenepuru Hospital and Kapiti Health Centre.
