Medical Imaging Technologists (MITs) – often known as ‘radiographers’ – who are members of the APEX union are undertaking two 24-hour strike actions.

Capital & Coast DHB respects and acknowledges APEX members’ right to undertake the strike actions, which will take place from:

  • 7am Monday 30 September to 7am Tuesday 1 October, and
  • 7am Wednesday 2 October to 7am Thursday 3 October

Patient safety and wellbeing remains our highest priority and focus, and contingency plans are in place to ensure we can continue to meet patients’ needs during this time.

This means prioritising essential and acute services over others. Patients in urgent need of radiology services – such as x-rays, CT scans, etc – can be assured they will receive care.

Non-urgent appointments and procedures are being rescheduled, and patients notified accordingly.

Wellington’s Emergency Department (ED) will have limited x-ray capability during the strike, and people with non-urgent injuries should see their GP or after-hours centre in the first instance. The Kenepuru Accident & Medical Clinic (KAMC) will also have limited x-ray capacity.

People who visit the ED or the Kenepuru Accident & Medical Clinic, and who are assessed as having non-urgent needs, will be referred to another provider for x-ray or may be asked to return the next day.
