Capital & Coast District Health Board (CCDHB) has received notice that hospital midwives who are members of the MERAS union will undertake national strike action from 9.01am to 9.01pm on Thursday 14 February.

A number of our hospital midwives are MERAS members and will withdraw their services from our campuses for the duration of the strike.

We have detailed plans in place to ensure our facilities remain open and services continue to operate as normally as possible. Our aim is to minimise any effect on women, babies and families.

We may, however, need to delay some elective procedures to ensure we can provide acute care to women and babies who require it.

All Lead Maternity Carers (LMCs) will be providing their usual care to women and babies.

Patient safety and wellbeing remains our highest priority and focus during the strike times, and detailed plans are in place to ensure women and babies continue to receive the care and support they need.
