Staff take part in a previous exercise in 2015.
The exercise involves a mass casualty scenario in which Wellington Free Ambulance crews transport ‘casualties’ – people posing as injured patients – to the hospital’s Emergency Department for triage and treatment.As such, people should not be alarmed if they notice increased activity in and around the hospital.
These exercises are carried out regularly to enable staff and services to refresh their knowledge and hone procedures. It is also an opportunity to train new staff in mass casualty roles, and trial new processes.
The exercise will have no impact on the care and treatment of actual patients.
