Capital & Coast District Health Board (CCDHB) Chief Executive Debbie Chin today announced her intention to stand down at the end of 2017.
Involved in the health sector in key roles for over two decades at both a national and regional level, Debbie was an advisor to the Prime Minister from 1994 to 1998, and the Deputy Director General Corporate and Information at the Ministry of Health from 2002 to 2007. The latter role also included a period as Acting Director General of Health.
Her involvement with CCDHB commenced in 2009 when she was appointed Crown Monitor of both the Hutt and Wellington DHBs. In 2013 she took over as interim chief executive at CCDHB and was appointed the permanent chief executive in 2015.
“Work in health is always challenging and DHBs are big complex businesses. My time here has been extremely rewarding – but I’m ready for my next challenge. I have been privileged to work under the leadership of two high calibre Board Chairs, Sir John Anderson and Dr Virginia Hope,” said Mrs Chin.
“Although at times it has been difficult, the DHB has achieved many advances thanks to the quality of the front line team. I would like to thank the staff for the work they do and their dedication to our community. I also want to acknowledge the high levels of engagement across the organisation.
“Our clinicians have been focussed on ensuring a high standard of delivery. The trust and confidence placed in our leadership team by our primary health care providers enabled us to develop new models and new directions to accommodate the changing needs of our aging population.
“I would especially like to acknowledge the staff who successfully introduced the new laboratory services, those involved in the major developments in the Youth Forensic Unit, and the clinicians who have worked to make us one of the most productive and efficient hospital services in the country.
“I am also delighted that – thanks to the generous donation by Mark Dunajtschik of a state of the art children’s hospital – we have secured the future of children’s health services for the region.”
Board Chair Andrew Blair has thanked Mrs Chin for her hard work and dedication and her agreement to work with the board to ensure a smooth transition.
