This is a NZRC CORE Immediate equivalent course that runs for 4 hours (it does not include a skill or theory assessment)

Audience

This course is available to

  • nurses
  • midwives
  • anaesthetic technicians
  • cardiac technicians, cardiac sonographers, ECG technicians and cardiac perfusionists
  • dentists, clinical dental technicians and dental assistants
  • respiratory physiologists and technicians
  • vaccinators ( this course will satisfy vaccinator certification requirements)

Learning objectives

Through completing this course participants will

  • be able to recognise the deteriorating patient and identify the chain of survival
  • gain knowledge and skills to apply basic life support for adults, children and infants
  • gain confidence in the use of an AED and AED mode of a manual machine
  • demonstrate how to manage choking
  • be able to describe the process for anaphylaxis management
  • demonstrate a team work approach to managing the deteriorating patient
  • manage a range of medical emergencies
