Course details

This is a NZRC CORE Immediate equivalent course that runs for 4 hours (it does not include a skill or theory assessment)


This course is available to

  • –nurses
  • –midwives
  • –anaesthetic technicians
  • –cardiac technicians, cardiac sonographers, ECG technicians and cardiac perfusionists
  • –dentists, clinical dental technicians and dental assistants
  • –respiratory physiologists and technicians
  • –vaccinators ( this course will satisfy vaccinator certification requirements)

Learning objectives

Through completing this course participants will

  • –be able to recognise the deteriorating patient and identify the chain of survival
  • –gain knowledge and skills to apply basic life support for adults, children and infants
  • –gain confidence in the use of an AED and AED mode of a manual machine
  • –demonstrate how to manage choking
  • –be able to describe the process for anaphylaxis management
  • –demonstrate a team work approach to managing the deteriorating patient
  • –manage a range of medical emergencies
