David graduated MB BS from St Bartholomew's Hospital Medical College, London, and after house jobs at Barts and in the Isle of Jersey he did a Medical Rotation at Newham Hospital, East London.

He trained in general cardiology and medicine at the London Chest Hospital (1985) and at Kings College Hospital, London, 1985-1992. 
He trained in interventional cardiology at Kings where he was Senior Registrar in Cardiology 1990-1992.

He was appointed locum Cardiologist at Waikato Hospital 1992-1994, and then locum Cardiologist at Wellington Hospital (Jan-Jun 1994).  David undertook the first coronary stent placement at Wellington Hospital on 16/6/94.
David moved south in 1994 to take up the appointment of Cardiologist, Christchurch Hospital.  He was appointed Director of the Cardiac Catheter Lab. in 1998 and has been Clinical Director of Clinical Cardiology since 2009.
In 2012, David was appointed Deputy Chief of Medicine.

His special interest and expertise is in interventional techniques for coronary disease.
