GP Access - Wellington City - Central - Dr J Gyenge Surgery
Location: 22 Brandon St, Lambton
The surgery is located in central Wellington not far from Kirkcaldie and Stains.
There is no parking provided by the surgery. However there is a council provided Mobility Park on the driver’s side of Brandon St. , close to the intersection with Lambton Quay.
Access from the car-park to Reception
- Access from this Mobility Park depends on whether the disabled person is able to exit from the driver’s side onto the footpath or if they are a passenger and need to access a curb cut they will need to proceed along the road to the curb cut at the lights
- The footpath through to the building entrance is level access. However the doors to the building are a double leaf heavy door
- For wheelchair access both leaves would need to be opened. Normally one leaf is latched open and the other is latched closed. The pins to unlock the door from this position are at the top and the bottom of the door, totally inaccessible to a wheelchair user
- The patient then needs to use the lift to reach the surgery level. The lift is very small (approx 1 metre deep as opposed to 1.4 metres for an accessible lift) and has no handrails
- The door through to reception is light and easily opened and has flat access
Features
- Mobility park close to rooms
- Easy access for people with limited ambulatory ability
- Easy wheelchair access
- Clear signage
- Wheelchair accessible reception counter
- Barrier-free corridors and doorways
There is a height-adjustable examination bed which, at the time of the survey, had a broken mechanism. The surgery keeps the bed set at a low level and “and rolls patients out of their wheelchair onto the bed”.
