Acute Day Service - Te Whare o Rangatuhi

Kai Ora - Nisa bula vinaka – Fakalofa lahi atu - Talofa lava
Halo olaketa - Taloha ni Malo e lelei - Kia Orana - Greetings.

Welcome to Te Whare o Rangatuhi Acute Day Service:

The Rangatuhi Acute Day Service (RADS) provides a therapeutic environment where adults (person’s over 19 years) who are experiencing an acute episode of mental illness can be assessed and treated.

The Treaty of Waitangi principles of partnership, participation and protection underpins our service. These principles provide the framework for the planning and delivery of treatment in RADS.

Acute illness is always disruptive, especially if it involves a hospital admission. The RADS is designed to minimise this disruption for those people who can be treated utilising day services rather than an inpatient admission..

How to access our service:
Referrals are accepted from Community and Specialist Mental health Teams (CMHTs) and Crisis Assessment &Treatment Team (CATT). Any tangata whaiora /consumers approaching RADS directly will be referred to the CATT for a full assessment of their needs.

Services Provided:

Assessment: RADS provides ongoing assessment and treatment of current mental illness and associated functioning.

Treatment Plans: Treatment plans are developed in partnership with tangata whaiora/ consumers, whanau/family and other key people such as the community care manager as appropriate.

Therapeutic activities are tailored to meet the individual needs and incorporate tangata whaiora/consumers personal choices.

Plans may include:

  • Individual illness education and medication management programmes
  • Medication initiation, review and monitoring
  • Consumer assisted wellness management programmes
  • Anxiety management programmes
  • Lifestyle education and management
  • Information on social and community supports networks
  • Pre discharge activities
  • Active promotion of traditional healing methods, in particular for tangata whaiora, with provision and access to appropriate cultural expertise and advice
  • Treatment options are developed as part of an ongoing package of acre and in combination with other community services and supports

Additional sessions may be added to the RADS programme as tangata whaiora /consumers needs dictate and individual circumstances change.

We welcome and encourage (with your consent) the involvement and participation of your whanau/ family, or other support people in the planning and delivery of your treatment.
