Participating means to take part, which can be through dialogue; sharing, expressing and listening to each others’ views. Within The Journey Forward it also means working together - shared problem solving, shared decision making and shared responsibility.
The Journey Forward is a collaborative and inclusive process, which aims to actively involve consumers, family / whanau, primary care providers and providers of mental health and addiction support and treatment.
We are all potential users of mental health and addiction services. Therefore The Journey Forward seeks participation from the widest possible range of people in our communities.
Supporting Participation
C&C DHB recognise barriers that can exist to participation and has policies in place to support the participation of people who have valuable expertise but are not supported by an employing organisation to attend meetings. Members of the Leadership Group and work streams who are not supported are entitled to claim a meeting fee to cover preparation time, attending meetings and travel.
A membership policy has been developed for membership of the Leadership Group and work streams. It sets out a clear transparent process for nomination, selection and membership of the groups.
Key Informants
The Journey Forward recognises the commitment required by individuals to participate fully and that not everyone will be in a position to do so. The role of key informant has been developed for those people who have expertise/ interest in relevant developments and wish to make themselves available to provide comment on relevant papers or consultation processes.
Priority will be given to Māori, Pacific People’s and people who have experience of mental illness and / or addiction and / or have used mental health services. The Journey Forward recognises the importance of consumer participation and it is the expectation that all participants in work streams and groups will take responsibility to ensure effective participation occurs.
