Leadership Group
A mental health and addictions Leadership Group is in place to lead the implementation of The Journey Forward. The Leadership Group is made up of members of the mental health & addiction and community sectors. Representation includes Māori, Pacific people, children and youth, older persons, adults, primary and secondary mental health, families, service users, workforce, DHB funding and planning, providers and NGO’s.

Work streams
Workstreams have been established to focus on specific areas of work.

The Journey Forward plan is being implemented through the efforts of a lot of people. Some of the work is occurring within work streams and the leadership group (currently there are over 80 people involved). Other people are assisting through their participation in work shops, behind the scene research and sourcing of ideas and information. All of this work is over seen and co ordinated by Planning and Funding at C&CDHB.

Programme Manager – C&C DHB
Melanie Beirne was born and raised in Waitangirua / Ascot Park, Porirua, and was employed in June 2006 as the Programme Manager for The Journey Forward. Melanie had recently returned to NZ after 5 years in London pursing a passion to travel. During this time Melanie also developed a very strong passion for the mental health and addictions sector working alongside consumers, and services to continuously develop and improve service outcomes inline with the UKs social inclusion agenda. Melanie has extensive experience in managing projects and change programmes, and previous roles in NZ included working for the New Zealand Medical Association and the WCC

Project Coordinator – C&C DHB

Katie Weastell was born and raised between Auckland and Taihape and joins The Journey Forward team having recently commenced study towards a Masters in Psychology through Massey University. Katie has been employed to assist in the development, coordination, and implementation of improvement plans within TJF workstreams. Katie is also enthusiastic about advocating for, and ensuring effective youth participation within TJF. She brings with her experience as a youth consumer of mental health services and a strong passion for the development of promotion & prevention within the mental health & addiction sector
