Creekfest is an annual festival which began in 2004. It is a celebration of culture and healthy lifestyles through:

  • food,
  • music,
  • dance,
  • sport, and
  • fun activities

for the whole family. This year over 30,000 people attended.

C&C DHB attends Creekfest to:

  • promote C&C DHB in the Porirua community and show that we're not "just a hospital",
  • improve awareness of services that are provided in Porirua by C&C DHB
  • promote improving health through alternative lifestyle choices.

Highlights

Hacky sack competition

Special guest Leo Bertos from the Wellington Phoenix attracted an overwhelming number of young people.

Fitness checks

Te Rauparaha Arena donated four personal trainers to run a series of tests. Every person who took the tests was put into a draw to win either:

  • a Sony MP3 player, or
  • one of three gym memberships at Te Rauparaha Arena.

Cooking demonstrations

Demonstrations promoting healthy food ran non-stop for four hours.

Healthy food stalls

27 "healthy food" stalls were at this year's Creekfest.

C&C DHB were the proud sponsor of the 2009 Healthy Kai Awards. Judith Aitken announced and presented the awards to:

1st place: KMMS Group, with sushi, sapasui, fruit kebabs and coleslaw.
2nd place: EKKA Group, with hamburgers, raw fish, bacon and egg toasties, potato salad and fruit salad. They used good healthy spray oil.
3rd place: Tawa Catholic Church, with cooked taro, chop suey and pork bun.

Next year

Next year, C&C DHB would like to:

  • increase the number of stalls,
  • invest in a marque and extra trestle tables,
  • focus on planning and preparation
  • involve the Cancer Society more,
  • arrange for the police to be present with their "P" van, and
  • arrange a supplier to provide hand sanitiser for the day.
