Specialist Anaesthetist accepts Clinical Director role

Capital & Coast DHB Chief Executive Dr Derek Milne has announced the appointment of an experienced clinician to the role of Clinical Director of Theatres, Anaesthesia, Intensive Care and Pain Services.

Specialist Anaesthetist Dr Malcolm Futter has agreed to take up this vital role on a permanent basis. He has been working in the position on a three day-a-week secondment from Auckland for the past seven months.

“During this time, Dr Futter has made an outstanding contribution to the role, including being instrumental in assisting the Anaesthetics Department to achieve
re-accreditation as an anaesthetic training facility,” Dr Milne said.

Dr Futter has held a large number of leadership positions during the course of his career, including chair of the Auckland Healthcare Appointments Committee, chair Auckland Children's Hospital Department of Anaesthesia and chair of the Anaesthetic Vocational Training Committee for the Auckland region.

He also works as a medical surveyor for Quality Health New Zealand and has been a medical advisor to ACC.

“I welcome Dr Futter into the role on a full time basis. We look forward to more of his excellent leadership and to seeing him be able to share his wealth of experience with staff and patients,” Dr Milne said.
