Smokefree

Capital & Coast DHB is proud to be smokefree. This means that smoking is not permitted in any of our buildings, car parks or on our grounds, for patients or visitors. Our staff may ask those seen smoking to extinguish cigarettes and move off site to smoke.

Please refrain from smoking near the entrances to our grounds.

All patients:

• will be made aware of the smokefree policy as soon as reasonably practical.
• will be asked their smoking status when they're admitted to hospital. Smokers will be offered Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) to assist with nicotine withdrawal symptoms during their hospital stay.
• will be offered support to quit or reduce their smoking if required.
• who have community services entering their home must provide a smokefree room during the home visit.
• wishing to smoke are required to go off DHB property, and are advised that we will not be held responsible for any risks associated with their medical condition or treatment.

On discharge, our staff can supply subsidised NRT.

Our staff can also provide a help card with services and support for stopping smoking.
