The last 10 years
The Seddon Wing was demolished after only 33 years (compared with Toxward's Hospital which lasted nearly 100 years), and the land became a car park.
The first addition to the original hospital - the block built for Nurses & Paediatric patients - together with the Laboratory & Xray block, were demolished. In their place, the Wellington Cancer Centre, and more recently the AT&R Unit were built.
Most recently, a new Emergency Department was opened in 2000, erected on land previously occupied by the Laundry, Kitchen & other service departments.
So what remains of older buildings? The front 'Administration Block', and the block housing Wards 1, 2 and the Cancer Centre (originally Wards 8, 9 and 10) still survive after 74 years, and the '210-block' also survives, though in a state of disrepair. All are destined for demolition to make way for the new Regional Hospital.
