MRCS (Eng) LRCP (Lond) 1892, MD (Brussels) 1893, FRCS (Edin) 1897

Began medical studies at Otago University, completing them at Guy's Hospital, London.

On return to NZ in 1894, he succeeded his Father as Surgeon-Superintendent at Grey River Hospital.
In 1897 he returned to the UK for postgraduate study.
