Born Edmonton, London 1836     Died Toowong, Queensland 30/8/1922

Son of a doctor, and grandson of Dr Thomas Hammond, an apothecary of Edmonton, to whom John Keats was apprenticed.
Educated at Sherbourne.  Medical training at the London Hospital.

MRCS (Eng) 1858, LSocApoth (Lond) 1858, LRCP (Edin) 1860

Initially practised in Surrey, but left England on account of ill-health.

Travelled to Australia in the 1870s, then to NZ, initially settling in Dunedin.  He then moved to Timaru, where he practised from 1878-1883

Resident Surgeon, Wellington Hospital 1883

Medical Officer on a Hospital Ship in Sydney Harbour during a small pox epidemic in 1886.  He developed a mild form of the disease.
He moved briefly to Cairns, then settled in Toowong, Queensland, where he remained for 30 years.
