WW2 service with the NZMC in Egypt, Syria, North Africa and Italy.  Initially worked as an anaesthetist in No1 NZCCS, under Stanley Wilson.  He later turned to radiology at 2NZGH, where his mentor was Eugene ('Nudge') Lynch.
