Worked as an assistant in a practice in Bury, Lancashire, before obtaining a HP post at the
Royal Free Hospital in London
Emigrated to NZ in 1907, settling in Newtown, Wellington, where he developed a busy general practice.
He became consulting physician to the Home of Compassion shortly after his arrival.

Enlisted with NZMC, departing for Egypt in June 1915. Thereafter were spells at Brockenhurst as
Officer Commanding No 1 New Zealand General Hospital, to Etaples in France.
ADMS 1929 - 1934; At beginning of WW2, appointed DGMS (army and air)
