Grandson of the 5th Lord Vernon of Sudbury Hall

Educated at Eton, and Trinity College, Cambridge. Sailed to NZ to join a friend who
was farming there. Began a career in farming, but after a few years, accepted the post of second Master at Wanganui
Collegiate, where he remained until 1883.
Returned to England to complete his medical studies. House Surgeon at St Thomas's
Hospital. Worked as a ship's doctor before settling in Wellington in 1891.
First registered as a medical practitioner in NZ 12/11/1891. Purchased the practice of the late Dr W G Kemp.
Honorary Visiting Physician, Wellington Hospital 1893 - 1897
Honorary Visiting Surgeon, Wellington Hospital 1898 - 1903
CMO AMP Society for 39 years
Founding Director, The Dominion Newspaper
Retired from medical practice in 1930.
