In the mid 1940s, there was concern about the still increasing number of patients with pulmonary tuberculosis.   The facilities at Ewart Hospital were stretched.   Eventually, after various planning proposals, a new 6-storey chest hospital was designed. It had its own Xray facility.   The new Seddon Wing was situated to the east of the main hospital, on a site previously occupied by the original Seddon Ward and shelters.
