Fever (Ewart) Hospital next page return to home page back to previous page

This shows the completed Fever Hospital.

The Hospital was later renamed 'Ewart Hospital', after the very popular Surgeon-Superintendent,
John Ewart

With ever growing numbers of patients with pulmonary tuberculosis, the Seddon Wards and Shelters became inadequate.    A second storey was added to Ewart Hospital in 1919, and tuberculous patients were transferred from the Seddon complex.    A new Fever Hospital was built right at the top of the hill to the east. It opened in 1919.
