Fever Hospital next page return to home page back to previous page

The Fever Hospital was opened in 1910.    It wasn't the first accommodation for patients with infectious fevers, however.    In 1892, Wellington was hit by an outbreak of typhoid fever, and the "Hill Ward", which housed up to 23 patients, was hastily erected in corrugated iron.

This photo shows the Fever Hospital under construction.    It had its own Nurses Home and administration block. Access was from Coromandel St.
