The Second Thorndon Hospital
Although planning for a replacement hospital began in 1851, the building was not completed until 1855. Because of the fear of future earthquakes, the hospital was designed as a single storey wooden structure. It had 40 beds and was erected in Thorndon, on the same site as the original Colonial Hospital.
