Initially trained as a teacher, and taught for some years becoming Headmaster of South Loburn School, Canterbury
Commenced medical studies at Otago in 1919
MB ChB (NZ) 1924
HS, Kawakawa and Timaru Hospitals, and assistant at the Cashmere Sanitorium
Came to Wellington in 1926, establishing a large practice
Honorary Physician, Wellington Children's Hospital 1926 - 1928
