Inpatient Service

What is the Inpatient Service?

Inpatient services are located at Ward 6 and 7, Kenepuru Hospital where there are two 20 bed units focussing on assessment, treatment and rehab.

The inpatient wards provide assessment, treatment and rehabilitation for people aged 16 years and upwards with neurological conditions, stroke, brain injury, musculo-skeletal and orthopaedic conditions or who have the potential to benefit from rehabilitation that is best provided by a specialist non acute service

What Services Do Ward 6 and Ward 7 provide?

Both wards have a team of experienced staff with specialised skills to provide individualised assessment, treatment and rehabilitation. The intervention will address specific areas, ie:

  • Assessment of medical, physical and cognitive functioning
  • Rehabilitation with individualised programmes
  • Treatment of specific impairments
  • Training with appropriate aids and appliances
  • Retraining in living skills
  • Advice regarding home modifications
  • Advice and assistance with planning for discharge destination, eg, organising home support on discharge, residential placement
  • Support in adapting to life changes
  • The education and support needs of the family/carers.

The client's active participation in decision making about the rehabilitation programme is expected. All patients are encouraged to complete usual routines, including being up and dressed during the day and to have meals in the patient dayroom.
