The Radiology Department provides diagnostic imaging services to the people of the Wellington region. It is one of the DHB’s busiest departments. Around 85 per cent of patients that come through the hospital doors of Wellington Hospital visit Radiology. That’s about 270 patients using its service each day. That number comprises around 100 inpatients, 100 outpatients and 70 Emergency Department referrals.
While the main department is based at the Newtown site, some x-ray services are provided at Kenepuru Community Hospital.
Radiology will be the first department to migrate into the new Wellington Regional Hospital in early November 2008 and will be located on Level 2 of the new building. At this stage, outpatients will either access the new Department from the underground carpark using the Green lift or will come in the existing front entrance through the Clinical Service block using the lift. Access will also become available via the atrium entrance off Riddiford Street once the atrium is opened.
