This department is responsible for the plain film x-ray examinations for the Radiology Department.
Procedures
The General Radiology Department undertakes all general x-ray procedures including Chest, Skull and Abdominal x-rays and IVUs (Intravenous Urograms). We also provide a fluoroscopy service to the operating theatres.
Equipment
The General Radiology department consists of seven radiographic rooms. Some rooms are set up for a specific type of procedures (eg chest x-rays), and some rooms are general all-purpose rooms capable of most plain film procedures.
The General Radiology department has recently been extensively refurbished, and this has been complemented by the installation of state-of-the-art x-ray equipment. We also have a satellite site in the Emergency Building at Wellington Hospital which incorporates two general x-ray rooms conveniently located immediately adjacent to the Emergency department.
Hours of Operation
General Radiology provides a 24 hour service for emergency procedures. Scheduled procedures, including GP referrals, are arranged between 8:15am – 4:15pm Monday to Friday excluding public holidays.
Location
The main General Radiology department is located within the Clinical Services Block on Level C at Wellington Hospital until November 3, 2008. From November 3, it will be located in Level 2 of the new Wellington Regional Hospital.
The Emergency Radiology Department is located within the Emergency building on the ground level of Wellington Hospital.
