The Fluoroscopy department is involved in the investigation of the 'soft tissue' and digestive areas which do not normally show on an ordinary x-ray. To overcome this problem we introduce a "contrast agent" (type of dye) into the area being examined.
Contrast is administered in various ways. It can be injected through the skin directly into an organ, be swallowed, be administered via a tube placed directly into the area of interest, or it can be injected directly into the veins in the case of an arm or leg venogram. X-ray images are then taken.
Hours of Operation
Fluoroscopy provides a 24 hour service for emergency procedures. Normal hours of operation are: 8:00am to 4:00pm Monday to Friday except public holidays.
Location
The Fluoroscopy Department is located within Radiology on Level D of the Clinical Services Block at Wellington Hospital until December 8 when it will move across to Level 2 of the new Wellington Regional Hospital.
