Angiography is the study of the blood vessels in the body using x-rays. A contrast medium, commonly called an x-ray dye, is injected to allow the vessels to be seen on a normal x-ray.
Blood vessels in the head/neck/abdomen, arms and legs are the most common sites examined. These examinations show up abnormalities in the vessels such as blockages and bleeds.
Procedures
During an Angiography procedure, a Radiologist will introduce a fine tube called a catheter into an artery in the arm or leg. The catheter is guided to the region of interest in the body and a series of pictures taken to demonstrate what the blood vessels the doctors are interested in.

Normal hours of operation are 8:00am – 4:30pm Monday - Friday.

The Angiography Suite is located within the Radiology Department on Level D of the Clinical Services Block at Wellington Hospital until November 3. From November 3, it will be located in Level 2 the new Wellington Regional Hospital.
