This page contains relevant information on the primary and community pharmacy services provided by Capital & Coast DHB and the review currently being undertaken.
There are five main sections:
Current Primary and Community Pharmacy Services
Capital & Coast DHB currently provides most outpatient pharmacy services through the 57 community pharmacies situated in Wellington City and its suburbs, the Porirua Basin, and the Kapiti Coast including Waikanae.
These community pharmacies are contracted under the Pharmacy Services Agreement (see below) and supply pharmaceuticals pursuant to prescriptions plus a range of other pharmaceuticals and health aids available for purchase without prescription. Some pharmacies are also involved in medication management pilot programmes.
Primary care pharmacist services are also provided by a small number of pharmacists contracted by some Primary Health Organisations (PHOs) and the Wellington Independent Practitioner Association Ltd (WIPA). These pharmacists work with general practitioners on diverse medicines-related initiatives and, in some cases, with individual patients to manage medicine related issues. They do not supply pharmaceuticals.
Current Pharmacy Services Agreement
This section contains the current Pharmacy Services Agreement between C&C DHB and community pharmacies for the supply of pharmaceuticals and related services.
Pharmacy Service Development Reference Group
C&C DHB is currently undertaking a review of primary and community pharmacy services and developing a strategy and model for future service delivery. A Pharmacy Development Reference Group comprising stakeholders in pharmacy has been convened to provide advice and input into the strategy and model of care.
Meeting agendas:
Minutes of meetings:
Board Papers and Supporting Documents
A proposed strategy and model for future pharmacists’ services, and business case will be presented to the C&C DHB Board in April for approval. It will be accompanied by a public consultation document (if required) for approval.
Public consultation documents and submissions
It is expected that public consultation will be undertaken in the middle of 2007. The need for this will be determined by the proposed strategy and model of pharmacists’ services and whether significant change in the delivery of pharmacist’s services to the C&C DHB population is proposed.
Documents will be added to this section as they are produced.
