Special needs equipment

If you have visitors with mobility or occupational therapy needs coming to visit please remind them to bring any special needs equipment they use on a daily basis with them. This includes walking frames, crutches, shower chairs, over toilet frames, etc.

Capital & Coast District Health Board does not have a spare supply of this equipment and cannot hire it out as we need it for the high volume of patients coming into our hospitals.

Wheelchair Hire Outlets: If you do need to hire equipment to help with daily living activities, many large pharmacies in the Wellington region have a supply; click here for details. [PDF] or here for the word document.

You could also try the following companies:

  • DME (Durable Medical Equipment) 0800 363 123
  • Rehab Equipment Company 0800 336 339
  • Cubro Rehab 0800 656 527

If you have a visitor with mobility needs coming to visit Wellington over the holiday period, find out what equipment they use at home and see if they can bring it with them before you look to hire it.  Some airlines may not charge excess baggage to transport this equipment if it is related to an essential disability need.
