Two members of the Hurricanes Rugby Team visited Wellington Hospital on 5 May 2011. Ma'a Nonu and Conrad Smith spent two hours talking with patients and staff in the Radiation Therapy area of the Blood and Cancer Centre before going up to chat with patients and staff on Ward 5.

Dr David Velvin, former doctor for the Hurricanes Rugby Team, arranged the visit staff after recently undergoing treatment. Arranged by Sharon Pihama, the visit was organised so that patients and staff could enjoy the chance to meet some sporting heroes. "The staff here are so smiley and bubbly, and as a patient you get to know them so well. After six weeks of treatment I was bouncing out of here and I wanted to give a little back," said David.
Both Ma'a and Conrad spent time with staff and patients and chatted to each one. Conrad said "It is so nice to come and visit here to meet everyone and brighten up their day”.

On Ward 5 Hurricanes fan Barbara Pitts (pictured below) did not believe it when she was told by HCA Annie Pahina that the two rugby players were coming for a visit. She was over the moon to spend some time chatting to them.
