National Work  Choice Day: Bobby's big break

Today is  National Work Choice Day, an event that saw seven high schools in the Wellington region send year 12 students to Wellington Hospital to get a taster of some of the many different professional roles available to students should they choose to enter the healthcare workforce.

This year around 70 students were taken on a tour that simulated a patients journey if they had broken their leg. The tour, titled "Bobby's big break", saw students spoken to by staff in Radiology, Orthopaedics, Theatres and Allied Health and aims to encourage more high school students to consider a career in health.

Recruitment Manager Lesley Leech said it was a highly interactive session and at the end of the day students were buzzing. "I would like to extend a big thank you to the representatives from the various professional areas who gave up their time today. As is so often the case, our staff at C&C DHB pull out all the stops to make events such as these a success - you are awesome."

Students who are interested in a career in health are encouraged to contact the careers advisor at their school.
