Blessing of new Women's and Neonatal areas

Our kaumatua continued their programme of blessings for the new Wellington Regional Hospital this week - with blessing for the new Women's inpatient and outpatient areas and the new NICU.

A small group accompanied the kaumatua as they walked through the areas - with songs, prayers and the occasional sprinkle of water - in a traditional Whakanoa (blessing) ceremony to ready these areas for their new roles.

In the Mihi (welcome) which preceded the blessings, kaumatua spoke of the many women and children who will be cared for in these areas in the years ahead - and the profound wish that they be cared for in a safe and supportive environment. They praised the design of the new facilities.
