It was announced on Wednesday 16th July that the Vodafone Wellington Lions have chosen Wellington Children's Hospital and the Wellington Hospitals and Health Foundation as their Official Charity for 2008.
This is great for the Children's Hospital and the Foundation. The relationship includes frequent visits by Lions players to the Children's Hospital, the opportunity for the Foundation to fundraise for the Children's Hospital at Lion's home games plus many other opportunities to promote each organisation.

The announcement was made during the official launch of the 2008 Vodafone Wellington Lions; where the squad was named for the Air New Zealand Cup season which begins for the Lions with a home game on August 1st. Jamie Joseph Lions Head Coach said that all the players wanted to help Wellington Children's Hospital. "Many of our players have young children and this is a nice way of doing something for Sick Kids at our hospital"
HOSPI - the hospital Lion
The launch of the new team was an opportunity to introduce HOSPI our Hospital Lion. He is the cuddly soft toy lion that the children from Children's Hospital are holding in the photograph above, and is resting on Lion's player Thomas Waldrom's shoulder below.
If you are a fan of the Lions and willing to volunteer your time to support Wellington Children's Hospital, please send your contact details to Maria Quigley at the Foundation on maria.quigley@ccdhb.org.nz or 04 806 1137.
