C&C DHB to retain ownership role in Community Nursing and Allied Health Services

The Board of Capital & Coast DHB has narrowed down its list of options for the future delivery of community nursing and allied health services.

Last year the DHB conducted a full public consultation process, setting out 5 options for the future delivery of these services. In response to submissions from the public, the Board has now eliminated 3 of those options (Options 2, 3 and 4) - which would have seen the service fully outsourced or privatised.

"The Board is now seeking further information on 3 final options - each of which would see these services being owned by the DHB in some form," C&C DHB Chief Executive Derek Milne said today.

The three options which remain under consideration are:

  • A: (Option 1 from the consultation document)
Expand and develop community health services by C&C DHB forming a partnership.
  • B: (Option 5 in the consultation document)
    Continue existing model (status quo)
  • C: (A new option, developed in response to feedback on the consultation)
C&C DHB retains services and invests in and develops them.

"I think it's very clear from these options that the Board has truly listened to the community. Submissions from the public did not support full privatisation of these services, and in response the Board has rejected the options which would have resulted in that situation," Dr Milne said.

"The Board has asked for additional information on these 3 remaining options, which will be provided in time for consideration at its April meeting."

"The public can rest assured that no final decision has been made at this time, and the Board will weight all 3 remaining options carefully. And they can equally rest assured that the concept of full privatisation of these services will now not occur.

"The Board is determined that the way forward for Community Nursing and Allied Health services will include some form of DHB ownership," Dr Milne said.
