The Board of Capital & Coast District Health Board has today approved the appointment of Ken Whelan as its new Chief Executive.
Ken Whelan has a wealth of experience in the health sector. He has held management positions in the Bay of Plenty, and in Northland where he oversaw the transition from Northland Health Ltd to the Northland District Health Board in his role as Chief Executive from 1998-2002.
Since 2002 Mr Whelan has been Chief Executive/District Manager for Townsville Health Service District, a tertiary service provider serving a wide area of northern Queensland in Australia.
In commenting on the appointment Sir John Anderson, the Chairman of C&C DHB, said:
“Ken is a very experienced and successful Chief Executive in the health sector, both in New Zealand and Australia. His proven leadership skills will be very valuable, notably during the coming 18 months as C&C DHB moves into the new Regional Hospital complex.”
Mr Whelan is expected to take up his appointment in mid-April.
